READ UPDATE at bottom of page.
I regret to inform you that our quest for site 15cw64 was a complete and utter failure. We went to the suspected site and realized we had no idea what we were looking for. Here is a quote from my brother :
"that was a fruitless endeavor my friend. one fossil, two weird rocks, and an alien pod....fruitless I say." - John Hughes
The only information I gleaned from this was that it would have been a perfect place for the Native Americans to live. It was shaded will with plenty of things to provide materials needed for shelter. A small river (Clarks River) provided a water and food source. Also deer are very prevalent in the ares which would give them great amounts of game. Bamboo type plants were found which would have been great for poles or arrow shafts. Finally we found massive amounts of gray clay. I don't know if they would have constructed pottery much but at least they had the capabilities.
I plan on making one more venture out there one of these days in a last ditch effort to look for other information. We did take pictures and have an actually GPS location for record. But mostly the Hughes boys failed miserably.
*hangs head in shame* (LOL!)
UPDATE 11/01/07
*My Uncle Roger had been to this site in earlier years. He explained to me what it looked like and knows the location. But apparently according to his account it had been dug up by the owner of the land (At that time). The owner was upset with trespassers on his land and took a backhoe to the spot. If this information is correct I would like to personally slap that man. Our heritage and history is not something to take lightly. I really hope that didn't happen but I am sure it did.

The search for Site 15CW64
A few years back I read an article in a local magazine about an Indian Mound in Calloway County. I kept the magazine but it has disappeared from my presence here recently. So I began to do some research about this supposed mound. I couldn't find the magazine article via internet so I began asking around. By some shear luck I was asking my mother about this site. She explained to me that it was real and when she was a child (Ark years...lol) she played on that site. After clearing my head of the site of my mother making a playground out of and Indian Burial site I listened carefully. She told me of the spot and how to get to it.
I spent some time searching the internet for mounds and after and exhaustive search I found it. It is Archaeological Site 15CW64. This site was added in 1985 and very little is published about it. The address is restricted....ha ha ha. It is currently labeled with the Mississippian Cultural Affiliation. The time period is around 1000-1600AD. It's "function" is burial and graves or Mom's playground whichever you would like to say.
So this Saturday Morning the Hughes Boys are headed out to find the long lost site of 15CW64. We are going to take pictures of this site and finally have a map to it. I know that this may seem small to you. But since we are Calloway Countians we should take great pride in this areas heritage. Some people will wonder why take pictures of a hill? Well after seeing some pictures of Indian mounds on the net why not add ours to them. I mean look at this one:

I know we can do better than that! Maybe we can label ours "Tabers Recreational Area". LOL!

Micah turned 8 yesterday...sniff...sniff
You many times people have said to me "They grow up fast". Although I heard them I don't think I understood. I seems like it was just yesterday that I was holding that cone headed boy in my arms. Now he is 8 years old and become more and more a young man each day. For his B-day he wanted us to "surprise" him with his gifts. So we got him some Pokemon cards and binder. Also the game 20 questions which I am sure is from the devil (lol...it knows waaay to much). Two more years and he hits double digits. I don't like that idea one bit.

What can WE do?
As I was reading this AM in Micah I came across a great little passage. In Micah 6:6-8 we see a series of questions and then an answer. If we were to summarize the questions it would be this:
What can I do to be saved?
Throughout Micah God is pronouncing judgment on Israel. So the people have come up to Micah and asked him. What can we do to be saved from this? Question after question flows and they never really get it. Then in verse 8 Micah states the answer:
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good,
and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
See all the acts of religion will never cut it with God. It is a personal relationship with our creator that saves us. Then we will want to do what is just and right. We will then really begin to experience love that is unconditional. This will cause us to think and realize that God has done so much for us and yet we have done so little for him. Then and only then will begin a humble walk with our Father.

Putt Putt at Sullivans
Our adventure to Sullivan's par 3 putt putt was pretty amusing. The girls had never been to a putt putt so it was going to be fun to watch. For the most part Micah putted left handed which is weird because he is right handed. Abbi on the other hand didn't want to do it at all at first. But once she got going she enjoyed it. She has the raking skills down pat. If you don't know what that it is that means she simply raked it to the hole. Hannah on the other hand used the putter backwards but hit an honest 2 shot on one of the holes. Chloe just ran around the course yelling "balllll!"

Me and Buffy were in a fierce competition at the end. LOL!

Marshmallow fires
A couple of nights ago we had a traditional southern "weenie roast". I have to admit I was pretty proud of my fire making skills. It has been a looooong time since I have made a campfire so I was afraid I would be spending long hours nursing a fire into existence. But after carefully placing the logs and setting the fire it worked very well.We had hot dogs and smores to eat and the kids loved it. Denisha (my niece) and her boyfriend Trevor (future relative) came over and we cooked and sit around the fire. It was fun to just sit around and talk for a bit.
As to the blog title...What is it that makes marshmallows so flammable? I don't know but it is pretty cool to let it catch on fire and then wait for it to turn completely black before you blow it out. If you haven't consumed a burnt marshmallow you haven't lived buddy. You know back in the day when they set fire to arrows with some sort of rag on a stick it was pretty cool. But think if they had been able to get their hands on marshmallows. Not only are they flammable but the also make a slimy burning substance that could have been well used during war times.
I will post tomorrow about our Putt Putt golf adventure tomorrow.

Hughes' to Nash Vegas.
Tuesday we ventured to Nashville to visit the Nashville Science Museum, go to Opry Mills Mall, Build a Bear Workshop and Rain Forest Cafe. The kids had a great time at the museum for the most part but the dinosaurs and a few other things scared Hannah and Chloe some. On the way out Micah was enthralled with the "Batman Building" so we drove downtown to show them how big it really was.
When we got to the mall we kind of strolled around and scoped out the restaurants. After putting in our name for dinner at the Rain Forest Cafe we headed back to Build a Bear to let the kids make an animal. Here is the kids choices:
Micah - A dog named "Danny" (I have no idea why)
Abbi - A bear named "Pink" (Guess what color it is...)
Hannah - A bear named "Purple" (Guess what color it has on...)
Chloe - A bear (she is to old to care so I had to name it) "Rose"
After that venture we headed back to the cafe to eat. It is a little noisy in the restaurant and the animals move around every 15mins so the girls (Abbi, Hannah) would hold their ears during the storms and such. I did find that if I grabbed my knife and acted like i would stab the oncoming mechanical animals Hannah simmered down a
bit.
All and all we had a great trip and it was a blast to see the kids have fun! I will post more soon about other adventures during my vacation. Until then stay safe.

Jailer James
On our trip to Clarksville, TN last Sunday we noticed some signs along the way. At first Buffy thought that she might have seen my name on a sign but wasn't sure. So further down the way we came across another sign and sure enough it had my name on it. So we made plans to come by on our way to Nashville, TN. Tuesday we headed toward Nashville and began to look for a good place to take this picture. I must say Buffy seemed a little embarrased at the thought of stopping in someones lawn and having my picture made by their sign. So she snapped the picture and ran to the car as if she had just committed a crime. LOL!

Pumpkin Patch
This weekend we went to Wurth's farms with the family. This is a great trip for the kids and it kind of starts the fall season for us. When you come into the farm there is a lot to do with the kids. They have inflatables, a maze made out of hay bails, petting zoo and horse rides.Once the kids have finished with that we head out on a hay ride to the pumpkin patch. Along the way there are "scary" Halloween type things that hang from trees and in the woods. You arrive at the patch the kids unload grab wagons and head out to pick their pumpkin. This patch is pretty large and there is all sizes to pick from. After traveling the patch all the little ones jump back on the hayride and arrive back to pay.
After all of that we finally end the adventure with hot dogs, chips, apple cider and the all to famous apple sundae. The kids really enjoy the trip and talk about it all year waiting for the next trip.

The Mini Grill
A few months ago I was thinking about purchasing a gas grill. I love to grill out and thought it would be a great thing to have. After looking at the grills and prices I found myself questioning the idea of such a pricey adventure. Then I looked over and found one of those mini grills they sell for traveling and the price was awesome. So we went home with a mini grill. This little BBQ master has been well worth the purchase and I love it's convenience. Not to mention the steaks cook just as good.
Short post for for a small grill.
