Stages South

Genesis 12:9

Then Abram continued traveling south by stages toward the Negev.

The verse following this one gives us an understanding of the travel. Apparently Canaan was going through a famine. Abram and his family headed out in stages through the Negev. From what I can gather this is a desert region and maybe that would help us to understand the stages part. Maybe these stops were determinate on a water or food source. We could sure understand that idea. Whatever the case we see Abram continuing to trust God in this dry wasteland.
