It is more than a AMEN!

Tonight we talked about the blessed life. This is not the prosperity gospel teachings at all. The verse below is the one we discussed with references to others (Old Testament and New).

Luke 11:12-28

As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Jesus had a crowd of people following him at this time. The setting here is after he had commanded a demon to leave a person. Some were saying (I bet you can't guess who) that Jesus did this with the power of Satan. Jesus then began to use this as a time to teach. At the end of his speech you see this woman call out. Jesus then explains that just hearing the word does not cut it. Doing it is what matters.

We can sit in church and Amen the pastor's sermon. We can stand, raise our hands and sing the worship songs. We can open our leather name engraved bibles. We can shake hands and even talk about how great our Sunday was all week. But all of this is meaningless if we don't put it into action. The word should change us. It should make us new.

James 3:9-12

"With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."
