Matthew 6:22-23
22 “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
The above verse really stuck out to me today in morning bible study. We were talking about worrying and the text was the very well known :
6:34
"So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today"
We actually started the text though in verse 25 where it says, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?"
We were talking about worrying and it appears about 5 times in the text we looked over. The thing that peaked my attention was the part I put in bold in verse 25. The sentence starts off with "That is why". This should lead you to think about why is he telling us these next few verses. So while I look above I noticed an overall theme of money and possessions. Then SMACK dab in the middle of this passage you see the text about the eye. It doesn't seem to fit at first. Then a light bulb went off.
Your eye is the very thing that lets light into your body. It is what causes you to see. You can feel the effects of light other ways but the overall view of light has to come through your eye. If your eye is sick or damaged your vision is impaired or completely gone. Darkness then would be all you know. Worry is that darkness it is blinding, depressing, sad, gloomy and the list could go on. You can choose to walk around in that darkness and even deny it is there. Or you can open your eyes and see that God is in control.
This blog article is a work in progress. It will take some more time to meditate and search the scriptures. Right now you have a rough draft from Jamie's brain. Good Luck!
