Harran

Genesis 11:31-32
31
Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. 32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

Haran was another city that wasn't small. This was a common stopping place to Canaan. The city was once again full of pagan practices. In Isaiah we see proof of this:

Isaiah 37:12-13

12 Have the gods of other nations rescued them—such nations as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Tel-assar? My predecessors destroyed them all! 13 What happened to the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad? What happened to the kings of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?”

How hard it must have been to follow the Lord in an environment. Sarai was barren and you know Abram was getting questions about his God. Abram if your God is God then why is your wife barren? Why don't you worship the god of your father? Although this is not stated in the bible it does come up in our minds. Because we all face some sort of ridicule for our faith in hard times.

After years in Haran Abram's father dies. What now?
