Last night we continued in our study of 1st John. During this lesson the discussion on salvation began. I was very interested in hearing all the different questions that came into the group. A different thought of salvation seemed to change the tone of the class a bit. At first I must say that I felt uncomfortable. I held back the human side of me to say "...um sorry you are wrong". Then as the dialogue continued I felt proud of these things:
1.) Openness of the group to discuss with no judgment
2.) The type of atmosphere where someone can bring up questions without being slaughtered
3.) The amazing differences we have even within a single home.
4.) The overall agreement that Salvation is through faith in Christ and no other. There is nothing we can do to make ourselves righteous enough to deserve eternal life.
5.) Of our pastor. I over the years have come in contact with a lot of pastors. I have never been so proud to see a man of God handle a discussion so complex in a way that I believe Jesus would be proud of. I don't say this to puff up man. I say this to show what God has done.
On a side note I have been asked to teach the full month in Feb on Wednesday nights. This is the same class that I wrote about today. I am excited to teach and plan on using a lesson series me and Buffy worked on years ago. Some of you may still have the red hooded sweatshirt. It's called "FEB" ...more later. Oh and yes that is our church service on a Sunday Morning. LOVE IT!
