Conversation with God

Conversation : a primitive root; perhaps properly, to arrange; but used figuratively (of words), to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue:--answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think...

Today I was thinking about how I truly love to talk to new people. I love to hear about their life, thoughts, feelings and convictions. I even share my life with others pretty freely. The only person besides the Lord that I share all my thoughts and feelings with would be my wonderful wife. I totally feel comfortable telling her my questions, fears and most intimate thoughts. I love sitting down with her at night and just sharing. Of course I am not always the greatest listener or talker but I love it still. I feel as though she is the only person on earth that truly "gets me" all the time. I love that!

Reading some scripture today I was intrigued by this verse:

"When the Lord had finished his conversation with Abraham, he went on his way, and Abraham returned to his tent" (Gen 18:33, NLT)

Of course as always it is highly important to understand the context in which this verse sets. Abraham is talking back and forth with God about Sodom and Gomorrah's present situation. He reverently pleads for the cities to be spared an awful fate. The Lord not only listens but has a conversation with Abraham about the current situation. After God explains to Abraham that he will not destroy the town IF Abraham finds 10 righteous people. Then the above verse comes into play.

What struck me is that God and Abraham were having a conversation. In some versions it reads communion. We all pray as Christians. We also ATTEMPT to listen after prayer. But have you ever entertained the idea of actually having a discussion or dialogue with God? I don't think I have ever thought of it that way before. That type of intimacy is what God wants from us. Jesus spent time talking with God even before his death he had a very intimate dialogue with God. That evening Jesus would begin his journey to the cross. Why? So that we could have communion with God.
