The Relay for Life

Tonight the Hughes family ventured to Murray to go to the Relay for life. Every year people from all around come to help raise money to fight cancer. Buffy's father is a cancer survivor. They recognize those who have won the fight against cancer. Afterwards they walk the track around once as a symbol of their strength to survive.

Then later that night they have a luminary ceremony. This is to pay tribute to the ones that lost their battle to cancer. This is a solemn and humbling time in the ceremony. The whole stadium is dark as they light the luminary candles and announce the names of those lost to cancer. Having lost a grandmother to cancer help me to see that there has to be more research. Who knows what we can do if we raise enough money to aid in the research. We can not forget that man can only go so far. With the power of Christ we can do all things. Once we combine God's almighty knowledge and power we can surely find a cure.

I know many do not attend this event that have lost loved ones. As I understand that they do not want to remember such a hard time in their life I also know that I have a mother that cancer runs in the family with. I understand that I too will in turn could deal with it. Then more important than all that is that my children may have to fight the same battle. I will do all I can to support this cause. We can win if we fall down at the feet of Jesus and look to him for the cure.

What is heartbreaking is the small children going up to get thier medals. One was still in a stroller. One little girl ran up and hugged Micah, because they knew each other from school. Having 4 children myself, I cannot imagine such a nightmare!!
