Splash Park

Yesterday we took the kids to one of the splash parks in Owensboro. We have been planning on doing this for awhile and finally found time. It is a really neat place and the kids can play in water, run, jump and scream all they want. It was made to look like a dragon. It's tail sprayed more of a mist, it's head shot a stream of terror that looked like it would peal the kids skin like an onion (but I guess it didn't), water shot up from the ground randomly and there was a flower where water would rain down on the kids.

They had a blast!! Here a few pictures:

I just thought I would try to keep the family in Murray updated about things every so often. Oh and our children love Sam's Club. It's the free food!

Slimed for Missions!

Well the whole week of VBS we were getting the little ones to bring in change to raise money for missions (children in Haiti). The whole idea was to help them see the need to help others. There was a little competition going as well where if the girls won Jason (mad scientist) would get slimed. On the other hand if the boys won I would receive a slimmin'. There was an ultimate goal though...IF the kids raised $2000.00 we would both get slimmed with our friend Dan as well. Needless to say the kids raised over $2100.00 which meant we were doomed for the goo.

Bad news!!!!

"Buge" with tha goo.

Slimed and proud (after all it was for missions)

This mix was cold wet and slimy. On the other hand it had a rich oat and pudding taste and it was great for the skin. Dan I believe you are right it is time to create a men's spa. LOL!

One must never eat a lime peal again!

Last night at VBS we were doing a skit about sinking or floating. We had numerous items to place in the tub of water. One of them was an orange pealed and one not pealed. The professor took a bite out of the pealed orange. So what does not so smart Jamie do?? I took a huge bite out of the orange WITH the peal on it. It wasn't so bad and went down well with a swig of Mountain Dew. After a few more I challenged the professor to eat whatever I pulled out of the mystery bucket. It was a lemon. He bit into it and it was priceless to seem his face. Although I did notice he never ate the lemon peal. So the last for me was a lime. I bit into that sucker and the meat of the fruit was fine. The peal was NOT! I began to choke down the peal...but my ole trusty Mountain Dew seem to have no effect on the lime peal taste. Once my gag reflex started to kick in I decided it was time for drastic measures. Slowly I would pack the peal in the far recesses of my cheeks until a time came up to get rid of the vile substance. Then FINALLY a time came for the attention to come off of the professor and me and I rushed off stage. I expelled the lime peal mush into a Wal-Mart bag. I forgot to turn off my mic so I am glad I didn't gag. All the kids heard was a wrinkling bag.

So note to everyone:
If you think eating a lime peal is fun you are crazy. NEVER do it! Take it from a not so smart expert in this department.

The science experiment that went waaaay wrong.

Last night we had our first night of VBS. I was placed as faithful but clumsy assistant (obviously...lol). We finished the night off with the Bible verses and an experiment. Once I was geared up it was time for the experiment to take place.

As we began to pour out our dry ice the bag was being a bit stubborn one would say. The ice would not come out so Jason (head scientist) had to help me hold the bag to steady it. As we held the bag together the ice would not still come out. So finally in one big clump...

Boom!!! The smoke consumed us...Before it was all said and done we couldn't even see the stage or kids out in the auditorium. I was laughing so hard I was crying. Needless to say our experiment went down hill from there. Jason was suppose to be able to make a bubble with the bucket but it kept popping. Every time we would dip our gloves down into the mixture and fish out the soap mess. The bubbles mixed with the dry ice and poured out the bucket like something you would see if you put too much detergent in the washing machine. The kids kept screaming ..More Ice ...More Ice! So what did we give them MORE ICE. Again we put too much and the white cloud of experiment failure consumed us. We realized then....we would not complete this wonder of science. I must say though I think it entertained waaaay better than the actual correct one.

Tonight we try again...who knows what might happen. Ha Ha haaaaaa....

Garage Fun!

We are avid watchers of the show "Jon and Kate Plus 8". So when we got our house we loved having a 2 car garage. In the show their garage doubles as a play area. When weather is not great or we just sort of want to stay in the garage is a great place to play. With the cars out there is plenty of room.

Our garage is almost usable now with most of the boxes out from the move. We have a pile of empty boxes that will be headed to recycle and then a few more to be unpacked. So tonight we let the kids skate, play and paint in the garage.

Here are some pics:

Missing in the above pictures is Micah. He has a bad headache tonight. These are genes that I passed on to him. Which my mother gave me....thanks mom...lol!

He is on the road to recovery:

Oh Martha Stewart (I mean Buffy) has yet created another master piece. Soon these curtains will be on sale for the low low price of $100.00. Make the checks payable to "Buffy Creates Stuff". I am working on a deal with Target stores...lol!

Shopping and lifters

Yesterday we headed out to explore Owensboro some more. There is a road that is growing tremendously with new restaurants, shopping centers and such. We found there is about everything we need within a mile and a half from our house.

We finally wound up at Walmart like every red blooded American seems to do. The store was nice and very large. Of course we think it might have been set up by 3 year olds. Everything there has no rhyme or reason. Anyway...(ADD Moment). We finished our shopping and headed out to the van. I was busy trying to figure out how to put everything in the car with kids included. Buffy directs my attention to 2 Walmart workers casing a shop lifter. That man was running like his life depended on it (probably over a roll of film). I catch the excitement long enough to see him look back and scale a fence. At this moment I feel the Walmart workers re-evaluated their risks and also what they get paid. They gave up as we all would for minimum wage.

If I would have had time I guess I could have harpooned him with one of my Tiki torches.

Sandestin vacation

Last night we returned from our vacation to Sandestin. It was a long drive but well worth it. The resort we stayed at was beautiful. It almost felt like we were in Disney World. The kids had a great time playing in the pool, visiting the beach and playing on the playgrounds.

Me and Buffy celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on June 11th. We went out to eat at the Melting Pot. Buffy had heard about it and so we splurged and went. I haven't ate so much in years. The food was great along with the service being awesome.

These family vacations with Dad, Mom, John, Rachel and us are fun. I don't think it is the place as much as it is the family time. For a week we spend time with family and enjoy talking, laughing and just relaxing.

Thanks Dad and Mom for the wonderful vacation!

Also HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DAD!

The youth house.

At Walnut Memorial we have a youth house for worship, study and fellowship. I have always wanted to have a specific place that youth could hang out and feel free to use. It is great although we won't be in it much longer. In October we will be moving to a new Campus. We will though have a great place just like this one there as well. I even get to put my ideas to work for the worship center and themes.

Here are some pics of the house:

We are HERE!

I know ...I know....

There has been a loooong break since my last post. We have been extremely busy preparing for our move to Owensboro. With the help of many we loaded up the Uhaul and headed out. I must role the credits early ...

Extreme packer and organizer, unpacking detail, wagon train participant..ok ok basically everything! - Buffy Hughes
Assistant packer - Davida Bridges
Packer, box placement and movement detail - Kenny Bridges
Box placement, movement detail, wagon train participant and unloading detail - Glenn Hughes
Movement detail, wagon train participant and unpacking detail - Pat Hughes
Movement detail, wagon train participant, unpacking detail and childcare helper - Rachel Hughes
Movement detial, wagon train participant, co-pilot of Big Momma U-Haul, unpacking detail - John Hughes.
Childcare - Jordyn Bridges
Childcare - Shania Brigges

When we arrived in Owensboro our church members filed out of our house like ants. They began to unpack the Uhaul in record time with the greatest of ease. They helped everywhere and even stocked our cabinets with food, cleaners and other items.

It was almost seemed unreal that people would help like this. I know that when God is in it there is nothing we can't do. But it was a blessing to see it all happen.

The Sunday service was so awesome!!! Everything ushered us to the very throne room of God where we worshiped. My first day at work was great and I began to see what a Godly staff I will be a part of.

Buffy has been working day and night and has the house looking more real each day. She has been my rock and a great support throughout this time. Our children love the church, Owensboro and the new house.

I sit back often and feel as though I am a part of a dream!

I will be posting pictures of things soon!
