Dan Brown the deceiving spirit.

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons."
1 Timothy 4:1

I have kept my mouth shut for long enough about Dan Brown and his book "The Da Vinci Code". I know ...I know..."It is just a fictional book and "I read it just for fun". Maybe so but if you look at the verse above you will see what I am talking about. I am about to attack his book and character with "The Word" in which he doesn't adopt as completely valid. Let's look at his claim to be a Christian:

"Yes. Interestingly, if you ask three people what it means to be Christian, you will get three different answers. Some feel being baptized is sufficient. Others feel you must accept the Bible as absolute historical fact. Still others require a belief that all those who do not accept Christ as their personal savior are doomed to hell. Faith is a continuum, and we each fall on that line where we may. By attempting to rigidly classify ethereal concepts like faith, we end up debating semantics to the point where we entirely miss the obvious--that is, that we are all trying to decipher life's big mysteries, and we're each following our own paths of enlightenment. I consider myself a student of many religions. The more I learn, the more questions I have. For me, the spiritual quest will be a life-long work in progress." (Taken straight from his website)

That is not a comment from a Christian but from a person that is religious. The two are totally different. In his book he writes :

"Almost everything our father's told us about Christ is false" (page 235)

"All descriptions of art work, , architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate"(title page)

"The church has two thousand years of experience pressuring those who threaten to unveil its lies. Since the days of Constantine, the church has successfully hidden the truth about Mary Magdalene and Jesus. We should not be surprised that now, once again, they have found a way to keep the world in the Dark." (page 407)

I could go on and on with the horrid attack on the church, the bible and Christ himself. I choose though to say a few things. Mr Brown you have done what Satan wanted you to do. I think C.S. Lewis knew this day would come. In his book "The Screwtape Letters" he explains how the demons will use thing just like this to sway people to deny Christ. You are not a Christian simply because a real Christian would NEVER write this. I will stand fully on that statement because it is totally biblical.
Here is Dan Browns life verse:
"3 Some false teachers may deny these things, but these are the sound, wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they are the foundation for a godly life. 4 Anyone who teaches anything different is both conceited and ignorant. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, fighting, slander, and evil suspicions. 5 These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they don't tell the truth. To them religion is just a way to get rich.(1 Timothy 6:3-5)
Finally people I will finish saying this. You might say it is fiction. You might try to justify it by many ways. The case in point is that it is NOT biblical and it uses God's word in vain. Last verse will end my rant.
"18 And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the prophetic words of this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone removes any of the words of this prophetic book, God will remove that person's share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book. 20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon!" Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!"(Rev 22:18-20)

This summer is full.

This summer is full and my calendar is looking crazy. June will start the madness with the Youth Summer Mission, 4 Extreme Actions events(Children), Ridgecrest Sunday School week and a wedding.

I wanted to mention that our 12th year anniversary is coming June 11th. Plus July 20th me and Buffy will have been together for 18 years. There is not many people on this earth that can say they have been together since 8th grade. Relationships can last people. It takes work and few people are willing to so.

So this summer will fly by without me even having time to take it in. I am excited about what this summer will bring but overwhelmed with what needs to be done.

Finally my devotional page is up and running. I still have a few kinks to work out but enjoy. I have already had comments like "what would I wanna read that for? ". Hopefully that is a joke...I KNOW it better be....hahahaha. Just check the side for Sozo's Devo and click the link.

Cya all and enjoy the rain!

Memorial Day

I think to often we as Americans see this day as a time off to enjoy the day. We rarely realize it's true meaning. Many men and women have fought and died for this great country. So actually setting one day aside is almost nothing compared to the sacrifice many have made. I also know that we need to constantly be praying for those who serve and have served. I really respect those who gave it all for this country we live in. There has been many wars that our nation has been involved in. ALL of our veterans and service people deserve a big THANK YOU! I say that last sentence for those who never got the respect and honor due to them. I will always be thankful to you all.

Good night all and remember there are many serving right now as you read this....

Chloe's Dedication.

Today we had Chloe dedicated at our church. This is a great time to show family and friends that you are going to raise your child by God's standards. All of our children have been dedicated and I hope and pray that they all become Christians. In my life the greatest thing I could ever hear is that my child has accepted Christ.

I live for that day.

Sozo's Devo...

I have decided to start another blog. Many of you have noticed in the past that I occasionally put scriptures and my thoughts in this blog. I have been meaning to do this sooner. From now on I will post all devotionals on the Sozo's Devo page. As soon as I get it looking the way I want I will post the link on my blog.

It has been a tiring day. So I am gonna hit the sack..nite all!

Chloe and thrush (Part 2)

This will be a short post to make up for the extremely large post yesterday. Buffy took Chloe back to the Dr for the thrush. I appears that most of it is gone...but there are small patches of it left. If you discontinue the meds it will come back. So Chloe will have the medicine for 1 more week. This is fun because it hurts her poor little stomach.

BTW she is 7 lbs 11oz now.

The Pepsi can email.

I am sure you have all recieved an e-mail within the last few years speaking of a Pepsi can that has the pledge on it with "Under God" taken out. Well after some help from Buffy and researching some stuff on my own here is what I found: (WARNING VERY LONG)

The Pepsi Can email:

First of all I must say that there was only one thing that I can see that true about the whole “Pepsi Can E-mail”. It said “Pepsi” instead of “Dr Pepper”.

In November 2001 the Pepsi cooperation released a Dr Pepper “Patriotic Can”. In this you can clearly see that they left out “Under God”. The reason is as follows:

“In recent days, several news media outlets in the country have reported on a special edition Dr Pepper can that (1) was created to show support for the patriotic fervor that has been sweeping America since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, and to show the world that we are a united nation of people who place a high value upon freedom.

Much of the information being circulated on this subject is incomplete or
inaccurate. Here are the facts:

The can, released last November, features an image of the Statue of Liberty along with the words "One Nation . . . Indivisible." (2) The special packaging was designed to reflect our pride in this country's determination to stand together as one. The Statue of Liberty and Pledge of Allegiance were chosen as two of the greatest symbols of American freedom.

(3) Due to space limitations on the can, only a few of the 31 words from the Pledge of Allegiance could be used. The available area for graphics limited the amount of verbiage on the can. Of the 31 words in the Pledge of Allegiance, only three were included. More than 90 percent were not included.

(4) We at Dr Pepper/Seven Up strongly believe that the message on these cans is a resoundingly patriotic, bipartisan message that we are a united nation.

More than 41 million special edition cans were ordered by Dr Pepper bottlers in portions of a dozen states. Because the limited edition patriotic can is to be retired in February, you will soon see regular packaging graphics for Dr Pepper at your local retail stores.”

I have underlined a few things we need to put our attention to:

1) Patriotic Support and fervor – If they planned on becoming patriotic then the needed to include the “Under God”. Why would I say that? Is this a bias view? Well everything is bias these days but look at the history of the pledge:

The original Pledge of Allegiance

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands- one nation indivisible-with liberty and justice for all."

On September 8,1892, the Boston based "The Youth's Companion" magazine published a few words for students to repeat on Columbus Day that year. Written by Francis Bellamy, the circulation manager and native of Rome, New York, and reprinted on thousands of leaflets, was sent out to public schools across the country. On October 12, 1892, the quadricentennial of Columbus' arrival, more than 12 million children recited the Pledge of Allegiance, thus beginning a required school-day ritual.

At the first National Flag Conference in Washington D.C., on June14, 1923, a change was made. For clarity, the words "the Flag of the United States" replaced "my flag". In the following years various other changes were suggested but were never formally adopted.

It was not until 1942 that Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance. One year

later, in June 1943, the Supreme Court ruled that school children could not be forced to recite it. In fact, today only half of our fifty states have laws that encourage the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom!

In June of 1954 an amendment was made to add the words "under God". Then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower said "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."

So in 1954 Under God was added to the pledge. Dwight D. Eisenhower explained that this would include all religious faiths. Not only that but it would strengthen the country as a whole. So showing a patriotic view would be to include the “Under God”. After all it was an Amendment made by our commander and chief. I know this may be different but America sure holds to the free speech amendment. Why not honor one a president of the US enacted.

2) Pride, Determination and Oneness…

a. Is this words in a letter or do they mean that. Many people that are not of a faith show pride yes. But what about those millions that do have a faith system. Are they not patriotic? Do they have no Pride? Are they not determined? The words “standing together as one” then is roughly translated to…”those of no faith standing”. Because being one would include those of faith.

3) Can limitations and 90 percent left out…

a. We would all understand that there is can limitations. There are many ways to deal with that. I suggest that they needed to ghost image the pledge as so:

Original

Ghosted

b. Next as for the can limitations on words look at one can easily do:

All that takes is to make the statue of liberty smaller. WOW the words suprisingly fit. As I show the font is the same size and will make the fit.

4) This whole statement is incorrect:

a. We at Dr Pepper/Seven Up strongly believe that the message on these cans is a resoundingly patriotic, bipartisan message that we are a united nation.

b. I have dealt with patriotic and united but what about bipartisan. You all know as well as I do that can never be true. If so then Pepsi would have printed 2 types of cans so as not to offend anyone. Instead they choose to omit people of faith.

5) Then to close it all off it seems at the end of the letter they are saying “Don’t worry they are limited edition so the other cans will be gone and you can continue to consume our drinks” for those who were offended.

6) Oh yeah check out this page that where they addressed the issue. Notice the picture of the can is gone as well as the link is dead.

I hope you all stayed with me and read it really helped me to research this. Do some on your own to find out more.

I will be glad when accounting is over.

Tuesday night I went to class which was accounting. The stuff is not hard it is just not enjoyable. Not to mention that half way through they introduce a new teacher. Our other teacher had issues that needed to be dealt with somewhere off. So then we get another lady as a fill in. I don't mind that so much just that I think the other professor taught better. One more week and I am out of this class. The next is business finance. Whoooo hoooo!

Church was ok tonight. I say ok because I was the one that taught out front. I always struggle about what to do on Wednesday nights. I felt as though I was boring them to death tonight. Probably was...

Have a great evening!

Buffy's Sleep deprivation

The last few nights Buffy has hardly slept any. Chloe's poor little belly has been hurt because of that blasted thrust medicine. When I feed her she screams from her belly hurting. Then the only one that can calm her down is mommy. This sounds sweet at first but Buffy hasn't been getting the sleep she needs. So tonight me and Chloe will have some father/daughter bonding time. I am pledging that Buffy will sleep the WHOLE night through. She deserves it.

So I say good night Buffy. I hope you rest well. Thanks for being a great mom and wife.

Playing Pooh Sticks

Today we took the kids to Bee Creek and let them play on the playground equipment. They all had a good time sliding and running around. Later on I decided to let them got to the bridge and look over it. That lead to throwing rocks in the water. They almost enjoyed that more than the playground. Eventually I introduced "Pooh sticks". That is right "Pooh Sticks"! Simply put you drop sticks in the water on one side of the bridge and then run over to the other side to see who's stick comes through first. They all seemed to like it. It was great to see our children excited about things like that. Instead of Elmo entertaining the all day.

The prayer circle.

Tonight I experience on of the most humbling experiences. During our invitation a fellow brother in Christ (Phil Unsel) came up front and said that they wanted to lay hands on me. He knew that in the past I have been having terrible migraines. The wanted the church as a whole to do this. I agreed but didn't like the attention. The funny thing is that I had just got finished preaching about showing people the REAL you. So it was time to show that I was weak in areas.

They all moved around me and laid hands. Offering up prayers to God that he might cure these headaches through Doctors and medicine or supernaturally. I have to say I felt the presence of God. I love my church and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. What a encouraging day!

James 5:14

"Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord."

A day on the farm.

Well it was not on a farm but I felt as though I was on one. A busy day in which I am sore and tired from. This mean that I actually did some manual labor.

I went to the DUMP (nastiest place ever) again. I loaded 4 trash cans, an old pool, torn table umbrella and some concrete from mom and dad's. We stopped at my uncle Rogers house and borrowed a chainsaw in which dad could never figure out how to use.

The ole maple tree was my biggest battle today. Mom and Dad needed to get rid of some limbs. So I threw a rope (the size they tie barges up on) in the tree to pull back limbs. This would keep them from falling on the house. Finally I finished helping and made it to the house.

Farmer Jamie then drug out the lawn tractor and mowed the north 40 (less than a half acre). I don't mind that so much simply because the lawn mower does the work. Oh as a side note this tractor is the very one that I ran under my house. I wish you could have seen that episode.

After cleaning up the kids and Buffy came out. They all played and you would think that would make them tired. But that would be incorrect. As I type this blog they are going crazy in Micah's room.

Sugar Momma is making BL's tonight (minus the T since she doesn't like tomatoes). The smell of bacon is one of the greatest smells in the world. I can almost feel my arteries clog right now just from the smell.

After boring you to death (I bet you skipped all the paragraphs and went to the bottom) I think I will retire for the night. My beautiful wife and us will be having dinner soon.

  • Oh and I used the "( )" a lot to make the information more fun to read.

A bunch of stuff all at once.

Today was a ADHD's best fantasy. I worked on Multiple things all at once. First I am trying to finish up our mission devotions and preparations. I have just a few things to do with that before it heads to my editor (Buffy). Then I have been finishing 2 Sermons for Sunday. I will be preaching for those who care. The titles are "While you were sleeping" and "What are you showing them". I had to do the screens for Sunday's worship service. With all that the only break I had was lunch.

Busy day but no problem for the ADHD boy....Daaa Daaa Da Daaaaaa!

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Just another day in Murray.

Nothing really worthy of writing about happened today. I took Micah to school (last day). The I proceeded to work. Where I worked on 2 sermons for Sunday. The first is titled "Will you be sleeping" and the other is "What are you showing them?". For more information on that be at church Sunday.

I came home and became the grill master. I grilled corn on the cob, vegetables, pork chops and blacken salmon. I enjoyed my first grilled salmon (I have cooked).

Now Buffy and the kids are asleep. I sit here in the dark typing about nothing. So with that said I will retire for the night. Nite all!

Round one...

Well the ole raccoon is back! Tonight when pulling up in the driveway I saw a tail in my trash can. I immediately threw the van in park and took off after the raccoon. It was like one of those cops shows where they cast a criminal in the woods. I belted out behind the trash criminal. I was feet behind him kickin at him with all my might. I could never catch him though and he made it away. I will be staging a steak out soon. I will keep up to date. Round one...Raccoon 1, Jamie 0.

As a side note Micah got an accelerated reader award today. He was so excited that he ran up to the podium and was smiling the whole way. Buffy couldn't even get a good picture of him going up there. I will post a pic of him when I can get one. I thrills your heart to see your child do well in school and like doing well.

Me and the big bus go to the inspection station.

Today I had to take our big ole bus to get inspected. This trip was about a hour and a half drive. I know that is not a long drive at all but when you are by yourself it is. The inspection went fine she past with flying colors. Then I headed back to the church. I ran into a flood of rain in which the huge wipers did not like. I decided to drive a few miles out of the way to eat lunch with mom. After lunch I headed back out on the road only to meet the flood again. Fun times driving a bus by yourself in the rain. Anyway I made it back alive although I almost died from boredom. Good times...Good times!

Chicken lickin'

Micah had a school program this afternoon. The title was "Chicken Lickin'". This play seem to mix Chicken little, the three little pigs (except they were all birds) and the ginger bread man (except it was a bird). The music was cute and I could hear Micah singing over all the kids. The birds would file out an say a few words. Each time they would add in number and prepare for the journey to the king. After they incorporated every foul known on this continent then came the fox. This is where it turned south. He lead them off. Later the fox was the only one to return. Licking his lips he said "Don't always believe what you hear". Poor birds never saw it coming.

Ohhhhhh the carnage!

Mother's Day.

I just want to post a small verse as my mothers day reflection. It is Proverbs 31:29

"There are many virtuous
and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!"
Happy Mothers Day Mom! I couldn't ask for a better one on this earth. Thanks for all you have done for me...but more important than that. Thanks for caring for and loving me unconditionally.

Buffy you are the best mother to out children. God must think so...he has given us 4 blessings. Thank you for being a mother that our kids can look up to. I love you peek-a-boo (inside joke).

I don't need to ramble on an on about mothers. God's word says all that needs to be said.

Sat yard mowing competition.

I have this neighbor in which I have mentioned before. Every time I mow the yard he follows suit. Usually his is shorter than mine before he mows. I have also realized that the mower deck of the CUB will not go shorter than his John Deere. I have decided that one day I will have a lower yard or at least have it lower where it meets his. The weed eater is the only thing that will burr down that far. Ha ha hhaaaaaa I will have the last laugh.

P.S.
I must mention that my neighbor is the greatest neighbor. Kind of like Wilson on Home Improvement.

Church goin' geese

This morning I was driving around the back of the church to park the car. I head around a corner and almost wiped out a whole family of geese. These geese has 3 little ones and acted like they knew where the were going. I do believe these were Christian geese. They also seemed dressed for the occasion. I tried to get a group photo but they didn't seem social. I was afraid I might be attacked. So I kept my distance and Bobby took my picture following them out to the field.

Here are 2 pictures:

Another rainy day

It is Wednesday and we are going to have another rainy day. It seems as though we have more rainy days than sunny this spring. There is flash flood warnings until 6:00PM tonight according to the weather channel.

We were up a lot last night with Chloe and her thrust. I feel sorry for her and the Dr just now called in the script for the meds. I would like to go up to the Dr's office reach over the counter and strangle the nurses and Dr's. It is easy for them to say we will call it in tomorrow or that we will see her tomorrow. They don't have to deal with a little girl who can't eat without her mouth hurting. Luckily I have the ability to restrain myself from such violent acts that would probably lead to jail time. LOL!!!

The kids are playing right now. Chloe is sleeping and Buffy is resting. Oooop ! Nevermind the Chloe sleeping part. Time to feed the little one. Have a great day!

Whew....

Well I got my grades back for two more classes this week. I was glad they were both over. One of the was an internet class that took 9 weeks to complete. The other was Management Issues. After all the classes so far I have maintained a 4.0. I know it is only a matter of time before the first B will come but I have enjoyed this ride. These classes are not easy to say the least but we have weathered the storm so far.

As a side note we are almost certain that Chloe has thrush. So hopefully we will have something called in to fight off the infection. It is not a big deal but it does make it harder for her to eat. Also we got the birth certificate back for Chloe and it was spelled "Chole". Funny thing is that her records at the hospital say "Chloe". Buffy and I are not too happy about this. Seeming that her birth certificate from the hospital is miss spelled and that is the one with her foot prints. Arrrrg!

I sure you have had a day where you think...

I am sure you all have had a day where you think to yourself. What is wrong with the world today. You may have had a death in the family, sickness, bad day at work or issues within your family (Mom don't read into this). We all have and then think to ourselves. God where were you during that time? I really needed you and I couldn't find you. During our times of sorrow and pain he is there. Look at what David wrote in Psalm 56:8:

You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.

Isn't that great. At first glance it looks as though God is just sitting there and writing things down in a book. Dive in further... It is really saying that where ever you go I am there. When you are hurting I am there. I will collect your tears and remember your hurts and issues in daily life. John 14:1-2 says:

"Don't be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father's home, and I am going to prepare a place for you. If this were not so, I would tell you plainly.

Just trust in God he will take care of you. Also remember the prize that waits before us. A crown of righteousness waits for us. Maranatha!

Maybe you needed this today.

SonTreasure Island.

Tonight we had a VBS meeting with most of the workers that will be there. The Theme is SonTreasure Island. It is like a pirate/island motif. My and Buffy are doing the 6th Graders. Buffy has been teaching this group for the last few years. So with the baby and all we are tag teaming it. I usually do the recreation (games) but I though a change of pace would be nice. I also volunteered to do the front stage decorating. I thought since I am at the church I could work on it more than most could. So be watching around July for the display I will take a picture and post it. We are all tired and ready for the sack.

Nite all!

We filled up a whole table.

Tonight we all ventured out to the church for awhile. I had to finish some stuff for church services tomorrow. So the kids played in the gym(Buffy and Chloe watching) while I worked. Afterward we all went to Cracker Barrel and had dinner. It was neat saying table for six. The Hughes clan filled a whole table. It was kind of neat to see us all there having dinner together. I can't imagine our family without every child that is there. As Buffy says "we seem complete now". I have to agree.

The Relay for Life

Tonight the Hughes family ventured to Murray to go to the Relay for life. Every year people from all around come to help raise money to fight cancer. Buffy's father is a cancer survivor. They recognize those who have won the fight against cancer. Afterwards they walk the track around once as a symbol of their strength to survive.

Then later that night they have a luminary ceremony. This is to pay tribute to the ones that lost their battle to cancer. This is a solemn and humbling time in the ceremony. The whole stadium is dark as they light the luminary candles and announce the names of those lost to cancer. Having lost a grandmother to cancer help me to see that there has to be more research. Who knows what we can do if we raise enough money to aid in the research. We can not forget that man can only go so far. With the power of Christ we can do all things. Once we combine God's almighty knowledge and power we can surely find a cure.

I know many do not attend this event that have lost loved ones. As I understand that they do not want to remember such a hard time in their life I also know that I have a mother that cancer runs in the family with. I understand that I too will in turn could deal with it. Then more important than all that is that my children may have to fight the same battle. I will do all I can to support this cause. We can win if we fall down at the feet of Jesus and look to him for the cure.

Thursday...Time to visit the neck popper.

I have an appointment for the chiropractor today at 3:00PM. I have never been to one and to be honest I thought they were Quacks. Since I have had migraines pretty often (although much better now) I am ready for anything. I would even try acupuncture if it would work. Although I would pass out from the needles. LOL!

Last nights flood waters ceased. There was debris all over the roads. I saw a snow plow clearing the junk off of 280. I can see now why Bro Dennis did not want me to venture down here.

It is one of those lonely Thursday. I am in the office all by myself and I think that I heard a pin drop. I have plenty to do so I need to be getting to it. Oh wait....There is our cleaning lady Martha. I need to tell her to get to work (On going Joke..LOL).

Have great day all!

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

The rains came down and the floods came up.

Tonight we has a massive down pouring rain. I was on my way to the church and Buffy calls me and says that Bro Dennis told her that I didn't need to drive down there. So since I was halfway there I decided to do some hospital visits. There are 3 members in the hospital right now. One of them is a youth member. So be in prayer for Molly Fender.

I am home and ready for the bed. Chloe has ate and sleeping well. Time to get rest when rest can be had. Remember to serve your Lord this week!

My arch nemesis...Accounting!

I started yet another class tonight. This class is accounting. It really isn't hard math or anything just a bunch of words to remember. I mean Credit and Debit are the easiest things to understand. But then there are other words that stand for things that I will have to work on.

This teacher is going to keep us the entire time. I didn't get out until 10:00PM on the dot. It has been a long day and I am ready for bed. You all have a great evening!

Monday, May 01, 2006

Last day of vacation and I am typing a 10 page paper.

Today is my last day of vacation. Buffy keeps saying "You had such a wonderful and relaxing vacation". Of course she is being sarcastic. Truth be told I have had a great vacation. I got to spend time with the family. The only regret I have is that the weather was not that great. I wish we could have spent more time outside with the kids.

Well the ole 10 page paper is due again. I will admit that about 50 percent of this paper is what many would call "fluff". This class was management issues and I was suppose to write about something in which my organization (church) has done in the past. So I wrote about our current venture to look ahead into the future. We are having a architect and engineer come in and give us an idea of where the building and parking lot need to be. Expansion is needed in our Sunday school for sure. That is what my paper is about. So it is about 25 percent content, 25 percent references and 50 percent insane ramblings.

So back to the paper writing I go. Have a great afternoon you all!
