As many will have noticed the local Christian radio station has went to all bluegrass. I have to say to myself ...WHAT???? I mean this was the only radio station in our area that can be well received. I ask all youth and adults that enjoyed the old J-FM to look at this site and email them you thoughts about their change. I did...
www.thejfm.com (the email is on that page)
Also if you can pick up this station in Paducah listen to it.

Micah's sick
Last night or early this morning...What ever you would like to call it. Micah woke up sick at his stomach. So from about 2:30AM until this very moment he has been in the bathroom. He is running a fever.
I needed to take a nap today. I never can rest well knowing that my kids are sick. I do better when Buffy is home simply because I know that she will be taking care of them.
I have to finish some economics homework for tomorrow night. I am really looking foreword to that. Also I am going to Paducah tomorrow to meet with some people about a Rebecca St James Concert coming to Paducah.
Anyway need to get back to work. Cya all!

Congrats Matt!
Warning : If you are not a Nascar fan you can just not read this one.
Well he did it! After a not so easy day at Daytona last Sunday (Curse Tony Stewart and the horse he rode in on). Matt pulled off a great win. I must say I was really hurt to see that Stewart blew an engine, NOT!
I am a avid Nascar buff. The only thing I haven't done is actually been to a race. So if you would like to fund that expedition feel free to call the Hughes Hotline. There is an operator sanding by.

Hannah lost it today
Sorry for the two post about death, but this one needs to be said too. Today me and Buffy were discussing death. Somehow my other grandfather's name came up (Paw Paw). My wife said something about Paw Paw dying. Hannah was sitting in her lap at this time. You know how you think kids are not listening to you.
Well we were wrong! Hannah quietly looked up with sad eyes and said "Paw Paw ..died???". I must tell you that this is the name my father goes by. She started crying hysterically. So I had to call my father and let Hannah talk to him. I could hear Dad say "do you want me to come over?" She would shake her head up and down with tears flowing. So dad did come over. All is well in the Hughes house now. The little ones are running around and Buffy is making dinner.
It did get me to thinking though. There will be a time when Paw Paw won't be able to come over. A phone call won't be able to fix it. So we need to cherish the time we have. For we are not promised one more day. Oh how I would like ...One more call to my grandparents, simply to say I love you.
So God will have to send the message. We love you Paw Paw, Granny and Grand daddy!

Max's Funeral
Today was my wife's uncle Max's funeral. I was a pallbearer for the funeral. This isn't like a long lost uncle from another country. This uncle was a very special one sent for God. He totally spoiled my wife, Davida and the kids. His wife Laurna is just a sweet.
During the funeral service it began to stir up old feelings that I had suppressed. I remember sitting in that exact spot when my grand daddy died. I thought of how I missed his pat on the back and his doorway greetings. I felt sad. Then the pastor reminded us that Max and my grand daddy are just on a ship that has launched for a much better destination. In fact they are already there.
Maranatha!

Ever had one of those days?
Ever had one of those days where life seems to be rushing ahead of you and you can't keep up. You fight hard to run as fast as you can, but it is like one of those dreams where you can't run or keep slipping.
Today is one of those days for me. I don't want to set up a pitty party so I won't bother you with the details. Lets just say the plate is full and people keep pushing it off the table. One day it will shatter.
I know life is good but you know we all have those days. Emotions are something God gives us. You can't always be happy and hyper.
On a major note. Buffy's uncle Max died. This man was an awesome guy. I really respected him in many ways. He was a Christian, great to my wife, loving husband and oh yeah...Most importantly a REPUBLICAN! (LOL!!) That one was for you Max.
His wife is equally sweet. Please pray for her and the family as they morn a loss and let us rejoice in his journey home.

Poland Mission Trip (Day 5)
This morning was like the other. We got up, had coffee and began work. We finished the "firing strips" and began work on sheet rock. I mixed some sort of plaster for the walls. This was mostly my job. The hardest thing was to stay consistent with the mix. Sometimes it would be too stiff and the other times too runny.
They also began pouring the floor this day. The cement mixer was as old as the saw of death. It made the most horrible sound anyone would hear. Everything here is much older and the construction is different for sure.
I saw my first gypsy this day. They just drive up and set up camp. They look really poor and filthy. There is 4 adults and 4 children.
We ate at "John's" house this night. All of us were invited over for a meal. He farms rabbits...So I am figuring that would be part of the meal. When we came up he was outside grilling some sort of polish sausage.
The meal was good and the conversation was awesome. John served in the Polish army. I learned a lot about him and his family. The house was packed.
This is the end of day 5.

Economics classes begin
Tonight our new class begins. This one is buisness economics. It seems to be a little bit more complicated than the others. The teacher is Chinese and I think he might be the smartest man I have met in awhile. He has personality, smarts and a love for the Lord. This is a recipe for sucess.
Side note : I finally got a new pc and new game for it. It is called Delta Force Xtreme. It is pretty cool in that you get to drive motor cycles, buggies, boats and choppers. I have found yet a new upgrade. I will try it out alittle tonight.
Sorry a short post. I have work to do for school...nite.

The drive...(notes)
We got up and began our journey home today. Derek is a trooper and I am feeling like a dog that he drove for me. I have one more week and I can drive buses and vans again (med change). I feel like I didn't give Derek enough for his troubles.
Once home I crashed .....sleepy sleepy! Can't write...need sleep.

Salvation Sunday (notes)
We had a great time in morning worship and then in Gatlinburg. I rode a ski left simply because I would never drag my wife on this thing. My riding buddy was Patrick (His face is a ski lift...LOL* inside joke). We paid 12 dollars to ride a ski lift up a mountain look at the mountain and then back down. There seemed to be a problem after the ride. There was a group of teens that go on there and shook the lift until it shut down. Thus making the ride stop...They had to use emergency equipment to get them off.
We then went back to the cabin. Sherry and Danny Tolley provided some of the best meals ever. I think I gained 100 lbs.
Worship tonight was great!!! We had 1 receive Christ and 1 wanting to be baptized. I also counseled with a lot of youth that night. Then I got to know a cousin (Lashae) that I never truly knew. She is a awesome girl with great potential.
They had a testimony time that lasted until 12:30 AM. Every eye was filled with tears as youth share about many things. God was truly present!

Snowy Saturday (notes)
Well trip was fine. We did get off to a slow start simply because Ricky and Judy Stewart had a fish tank basically empty gallons and gallons of water into their floor.
The cabin is great as well as the view. Snow is falling but it is not sticking to the road.
Derek did a great job leading us in worship. His 2 songs he wrote was awesome. I think he should record these songs. I truly think he has a gift from God.
Group lessons and discussion went great. We didn't have any commitments made. I expect they will still wait until the last night. We will see what God has in store.

Report about Friday (notes)
Today was a very busy day. I was at church until about 2:00PM. I came home just long enough to see the family and finish packing. We have the final total of youth and adults at 37. We are running against time simply because the weather is headed this way. Many parents are worried about the trip. Traveling should be fine.

The day is nearing...
Tomorrow we leave for Gatlinburg. I can't imagine what I will forget. I am totally sure I will though. Here is a simple math problem for you. This is the Chaos - Equation:
4 Vans
10 Adults
27 Teenagers
7-8 hours driving
4-5 hours sleep
12 Bedrooms and Baths
30,000 youth expected to be in Gatlinburg for some sort of Youth event (not ours)
This all equals mass chaos...I will try to post Friday before we leave. Then I will be off until Monday. I will however catch you up when I get back. See ya! Oh yeah ...Pray for us adults. LOL!

Day 4 (Poland Mission Trip)
This day began the work in the church. We constructed firing strips to put on the ceiling. They wanted us to use a saw that screamed tetanus. I used a hand saw the whole time. We also did prep work for the sheet rock. The walls were really rough and seemed uneven. I wrote this about out communication problem:
"Some times I think about the tower of Babel. There is 2 languages and only 2 interpreters."
We ate dinner at the church this night. I went to downtown Wisla with Mark and Adam (interpreter). Adam is a funny kid. He really loves MTN Dew, Star Wars and Christian Rap (especially KJ52). I would later give him some of my CD's. We went to bed at 9:30...It was a long and tiring day.

I can't see the wood.
I have so much happening right now it is unreal. Our winter trip for the youth is Friday. Their luggage leaves Thursday. This means that I have to make sure that all things are in order for Thursday.
My desk is so full with papers right now I can't see the wood. I mean there is permission forms, deposits, schedules, devotional books and the great Leather Ninja book.
Let me explain about the ninja book. This is a three ring binder that has everything one could need for the trip. I mean it is my life work for this trip. As of this moment there is 37 pages (in plastic lamnent). If I was to die one could that this an run the whole show. To answer why it is called a ninja book. This leather binder has brass edges. So in when in need of some ninja skills I will double as a huge ninja star.
Well I have to get to work. I am wasting precious time. Have a great day.

Sunday night.
It was AWESOME!!! This is all I have to say. We had a race relations Sunday. This is where we invite an African American church to take over our services.
Boy did they ever bring the walls down. The music was great...had me dancin'. Then the preacher got to going and the church was rockin'. Afterward you know us Baptist had to eat. There was lots of chicken to be devoured and I did my best. There was an incident with chicken and my face. I don't need to go into details with that. Let's just say I might have been enjoying it too much.
Cya...Sorry such a small post.

Bible Run.
My cousin Derek has put together a Bible Run online. A few of us guys will be committing to reading the Word through in one year. After each day we will publish a post about how God spoke to us. With all sorts of denominations represented this should be fun.
I recommend that you check it out and watch as we dive in and explore the greatest Book that the world has ever seen. I truly believe this scripture:
"The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple"
Ps 119:130
I think in the simplest things God can be so deep. We often take Gods word for granted. I have heard people claim that messages or scripture were to "simple". I would argue that point. The simplest things can be complex if you are search for wisdom.
Have a good day at your fellowship!

Snow day!
Today the family hit the slopes of Coldwater. We had our first "real" snow yesterday. So we decided to take the little ones out to play in the snow. First we made a monster of a snowman. I could barely lift his middle up (I almost pulled something...lol). Then once frosty was assembled we moved on to the snow fort. This took awhile to do. But in the end the little ones had a good time pelting me with snowballs (which I made for them).
Afterward we all rested and prepare to go to Burger King and the movies. The kids played in the kiddy room and had a good time. Then it was off to see Curious George. I didn't think I would enjoy it but this was for the kids. The movie was actually funny. I found out that Will Farrell played the guy in the yellow hat.
Now all is quiet in the Hughes estate...nite all.

Church Art Works (Please Read Update on 2/10/2006)
Have you ever heard the term : "Ill as a hornet". Well that is me today. Let me explain why this has happened to me.
I have a printing company I have used for years. They make wonderful and state of the art work for shirts, logos and software. My office is almost an advertisement for this company. Here is some pictures to prove it.
I ordered shirts one type for male and the other for female. I was very please with the artwork. Once I received the shirts I noticed that the women's shirts I had ordered would fit my son who is 6 years old. The male shirts are fine and true to their size.
So I contact them and they explain to me that those are misses. I explained that I was not notified of this difference. Then after the run around I only get to order more shirts to make up the difference.
I have ordered from this company 4 times for shirts and once for software. They don't care. I explained to them that I would be doing my business elsewhere from now on. They seemed to care less. So in my frustration I emailed them and complained. I was very vocal when I called them about the shirt problem. I know that if I had yelled and screamed I would have got my way, but I don't do that. I am very frustrated and need to relax before my head blows off.

Poland Mission (Day 4)

This was on a Sunday. I got up early and drank coffee downstairs at the church. The church itself is a future conference center as well. Although unfinished it will someday be a great place to hold meetings a conferences. This is a way to bring in much needed money to the church for operation.
After breakfast and coffee we all headed back up to prepare for Sunday services.
The Service was great. They did translate from Polish to English so that we could hear the preaching service. The music was fully Polish. We may not have known the words in Polish but we knew the English ones. I sang my heart out in English. I thought to myself this is the way worship can be. We may have differences...but one Spirit.Once services was over we split in pairs and headed to different people's houses for lunch. There I met a man name Micheal that was the worship leader. The house was small and the roads were dirt but the fellowship was sweet. I bet we were there for hours.
Then the crew all met back again at the church. We all put on work clothes and headed to down town Wisla. There was a tent that needed to be put up downtown. It was a large tent and it took alot of use to get up put up (seated 200). This tent would be used for a children's day camp.
A side note that I made was "Downtown Wisla reminds me of Gatlinburg, TN".
It was a big day so we all had dinner and headed to bed.

Classes...
Today was a busy day. I had work and then class tonight. It was time to sign up for the spring semester. I have about 100 books now. I am gonna tell you right now. As soon as my degree is finished I am selling these things.
There are three people that I must acknowledge. First my wife who edits my papers. That is a task in itself. She tirelessly takes my scribbles and make them understandable. Finally the other two. My parents have funded this years fees. I will be able to get aid next semester. This one though is not cheap. I had to sit down with my advisor and payment people. After seeing the bill I immediately feel my gut sink. I just all of a sudden did a mental calculation. I put the last years bills together and ....boom! I felt like a dog. I know that next semester will come and the bills will be paid for. As for this semester and next. I will make these count. After this class I hope to have a 4.0 still. Degree here I come. So back on up!

Just a normal day.
Today was just a normal day. I did a little goofin' off on the net and then cleaned up around the house. We just had dinner and the kids are watching Toy Story.
I have the winter trip on my mind. It is nearing and there is still things that need to be finished. I know that I am probably more prepared than a lot of youth ministers would be. We have the devotional done and ready for binding. I will probably spend most of the time tomorrow finishing it up.
The praise team is really coming together. I would like to thank Derek, Patrick, Jonathan and Trent for devoting 4 Thursdays to practice.
Last but not least the video portion is going to work well. I hooked up the laptop and video projection equipment. It will do fine.
Sorry to bore you with these details. This is just part of my life. LOL! Good night all!

My wife the scalp masseuse.
Yesterday was kind of a blur until the late afternoon. Once I regained composure I decided to inform you of one of the greatest things for migraines. I have found that my wife has miracles hands sent straight from heaven.
During a migraine Buffy can give the greatest scalp massage. It doesn't make the headache go away. I does help ease it though. Also I must mention that she is not for hire. I told her that she missed her calling. She doesn't like the idea of touching other peoples noggins. Darn..I say we could be millionaires. Instead I will be the one that has the cure for headaches and you will never see the scalp masseuse at work.

Date night.
Tonight is our first date night in ages. With children, work and tiredness we have little time to just go on a date. I am really looking forward to this. I almost thought I would be down for the count. I woke up the morning with a headache that would bring down a large dinosaur. These migraines are horrid. My wife supposedly fed me my migraine medicine and I laid down. I woke droggy but better.
Micah's first B-ball game went well. I though he and another boy were gonna get a "T'. There were word's exchanged. Don't know what they were. But the expressions on their face seem to indicate they were unhappy about something.
The girls were good cheerleaders. Although we need to get them some purple or yellow pom poms. All they had is pink.
Tonight it is Apple bees and a movie. Woooo hoooo!

Instant Pudding vs Cook and Serve Pudding
There has been an on going debate in my house for years now. Buffy has always bought this instant pudding junk. The consistency is all wrong and half the time the powder is not fully mixed. Buffy says she puts milk in it. I swear it tastes like it was made out of water.
The Cook and Serve pudding is the type I love. You have to spend more time on it. But the difference is very noticeable. The creamy rich milk filled pudding is great. I like to eat mine still warm. Still when cooled it is better than that fake pudding.
The only positive is that the instant you can make in about 5 mins. The REAL type takes time. Buffy has yet to try mine. We have been married for 11years and this is the first time she has bought my kind. She is caving' guys. There is hope for all of us it just takes time. I may be 100 before she lets me sleep on the other side of the bed.

True Love Waits
Sunday night we had a True Love Waits ceremony. We had 6 youth that went through a bible study and then commit to stay sexually pure until the day they marry. I think this is one of the greatest things besides salvation that a youth could do. To many people today say "I want to make sure we are compatible". I all reality this is one of the greatest gifts one could give to their mate. Staying pure for that one person you would spend the rest of your life with.
Off the soap box and back to the ceremony. I didn't lead the study. Carm (Pastor's wife and better half) did the study with the youth on Sunday nights. Finally when all was done we had a ceremony for these wonderful youth. The marched in white to show their commitment. There was music and prayers that were offered up as a pledge to help these youth in their journey. They will need our help and support. For now that they have pledged to do this Satan is ready to take this commitment away and bash it to pieces. As for me I will pray. I know they can do it. God will be there for them.
Here is two pictures (of many) of the ceremony:

Traci, Brooklyn, Chelsey, Landon, Zachary and Trent.

Poland Mission (Day 3)
I am just going to jump right back into the mission trip in again. To bring us back to where we are today Please read these:
Here is my notes from that day (I will expound on this afterward):
"I woke up at 3:30AM and took a shower in a really nice bathroom. I have really been missing Buffy and the kids. We visited Krakow market places, cathedrals and a Jewish section (where we visited a coffee shop). We have been eating a lot. They won't let us go without food here. The trip to Wisla was a ride. We had to calculate but we were doing 90mph at times on curvey roads. We arrived at Wisla and the church is neat. We met Anjay (the pastor) and his wife Barbara. We went to bed early 7:30AM."
This Day was probably the only site seeing we did. Simply because we were on a mission trip not a vacation (lol). Krakow was beautiful! It was interesting to here from John that Krakow was so admired that even during German Occupation that it stayed intact. The military leaders loved the architecture. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
