Halloween or All Saints?

Halloween is a holiday that us Christians have a hard time figuring out. After all as we all know and see it originated from a pagan holiday. The case is there and I see no problem with those who choose to not celebrate or even take part in this holiday. With that said I also see where the early churches tried to make this holiday to remember those who had suffered for the cause if Christ. This still leaves us at what to do though. Here is some information on this holiday:

"The term "Halloween" is derived from "Hallowe'en", an old contraction, still retained in Scotland, Ireland and some parts of Canada, of "All Hallow's Even", so called as it is the evening (even, spoken also e'en, is an old word for evening; eve) before the feast of *(see other passage below) All Saints (an important day in the Christian calendar), which used to be called "All Hallows" derived from All Hallowed Souls. In Ireland, the name was Hallow Eve and this name is still used by some older people. Halloween was formerly also sometimes called All Saints' Eve. The holiday was a day of religious festivities in various northern European pagan traditions, until it was appropriated by Christian missionaries and given a Christian reinterpretation. In Mexico, All Saint's Day, following Halloween, is the Day of the Dead."

*"the feast of All Saints is now traced to the foundation by Pope Gregory III (reigned 731–741) of an oratory in St.Peter'ss for the relics "of the holy apostles and of all saints, martyrs and confessors, of all the just made perfect who are at rest throughout the world," with the day moved to November 1."

With that said and noticing all holidays. I ask you now what about New Years? You say what does that have to do with Halloween? Well my problem is that if you choose not to celebrate Halloweenn then you should not celebrate new years either. Here is some more reading for you about New Years:

"Among the7thh century druidic pagans of Flanders, it was the custom to exchange gifts at the New Year, a pagan custom deplored by Saint Eligius (died 659 or 660), who warned the Flemings, "[Do not] make vetulas, [little figures of the Old Woman], little deer or iotticos or set tables [for the house-elf, compare Puck] at night or exchange New Year gifts or supply superfluous drinks [another Yule custom]." The quote is from the vita of Eligius written by his companion Ouen."

Wow I didn't even know that. But the point is still there.

Here is another about our Christmas trees:

Among early Germanic tribes the Yule tradition was celebrated by sacrificing male animals, and slaves, by suspending them on the branches of trees. According to Adam of Bremen, in Scandinavia the pagan kings sacrificed nine males of each species at the sacred groves every ninth year. According to one legend, Saint Boniface attempted to introduce the idea of trinity to the pagan tribes using the cone-shaped evergreen trees because of their triangular appearance.

But you must realize that this was not attributed to Christmas season. But many will compare it to the trees we decorate.

We could go on and on about holidays and events. The ideas are there that even a holiday such as Christmas "CAN" be celebrated with the wrong reason. Many people celebrate the holiday and never celebrate the reason. New Years I watch the ball drop and say "Well it is another year that Christ can be glorified". Halloween I let my children dress up and go door to door to get candy. In no way do I allow pagan practices into our holiday events. But I also say that you are free to have your own convictions.

Who are you to condemn God's servants? (Read all of Romans 14)

So I hope that made it clear as mud. Personal convictions are important. So as this day comes and goes. Remember you are to act and live like a Christian. If you are out there vandalizing and causing havoc you are following the pagan practices of the original day. On the other case if you are out there being Salt and Light in a dark world. You are doing the most important thing.

The great city of Dexter.

I preached this morning at Dexter Baptist Church. It is a small little church just outside of Murray. They had a "Youth Sunday". I preached on how we need to allow Christ to influence out speaking, hearing, sight and everything. Today too many people just say I want to wear the tag Christian. But they have no insides and outside that match that tag. Kind of hard to tell the sheep from the wolves that way.

Anyway we have a night at church with singing and a meal. It is our fifth Sunday Singing. To be honest I like the fellowship and relaxed atmosphere. We always seem to have a good turn out.

Well I just got up from a nap and kind of want to just sit around for a bit. Have a great Lords Day.

Judgment house, Road Rallies and Pumpkin Carvin'

Last night I took a few youth and some adults to the judgment house at FBC in Paducah. This even was awesome. If you missed it this year make plans for next year. It was a 7 stage drama. It went through the lives of 2 teens and the decisions they make. One made a decision to follow Christ and the other did not. We saw Hell and then finally Heaven. To be honest with you I wanted to bust the door down to see Jesus. The youth enjoyed it. So to Heather, Molly, Ashley, David, Zach and the Tolleys I hope you took something from it. I know I did.

Around lunch time we had an event at the Church for just the Pre-K children. It was called "Road Rally". All the little ones brought Power Wheels , bikes and trikes. There was a course marked off for them. They road around and played. After that they ate hotdogs and decorated sacks and cookies. Out children enjoyed it. Thanks Marlene!

We are getting ready for the pumpkin massacre 2005. What a deadly event. Jack it is time for your labotomy! Oh fall is here!!! Enjoy the rest of the day.

B-day and Pics

Well Micah has provided some more pictures for you all to see. These were taken yesterday during our little family b-day for Abbi. She really liked the Cinderella that we got her. Mulan was a close second and then the Jasmine doll was third. We actually had an authentic Mulan meal last night. I went and got Chinese take out. It was from the new August Moon. That place is really nice inside. They have the best Asian food in town.

Abbi's B-day and a lunch.

Well my middle girl is growing up. Today she officially turns four. Next year she will be in pre-k. Man that is a thought. I know she will enjoy her gifts and I know that we will enjoy seeing her get them. She adds alittle more drama to her gift getting.

Today we went to a pastor luncheon. There were all sorts of pastors there. I feel kind of out of place. Simply because I was the youngest (UNDER 40) there. But the speaker was good. He talked about how we have so much to share with the world. He compared how Jesus told parables and stories to get his point across. We have so much to tell and so little time to tell it. Instead we sit and let the television tell the stories while we occupy our time with something else. I remember so many stories from my grand parents and hope some day to share them with my children and grand children.

One like this one:

My grandfather was in WWII. He was in the motor pool part. He told me of a incident in which he was injured. My papa's job was to fix and repair broken vehicles. But there was another who's job was to make sure they were cleaned up before my papa fixed them. Well needless to say the guy before him forgot to take the flares out of the jeep. When my papa hit them with his cutting torch they ignited. He was burned and I remember him telling me it burned is mustache too. Which is wierd to think papa had a mustache. But that was just one of many stories. And only from one grandparent. If I fail to tell the stories of my family who will tell my children? This is how the memory of other lives on.

So applying all this to life. We have a job to tell THE story of Jesus. If we don't tell those near and dear to us who will. I for sure know that the world won't.

House cleaning night.

Well this years bunch of youth has been a challenge. We have given them inches and the have taken miles. So tonight it all comes to a head. I don't know what else to do that will bring attention to their actions and attitudes. We average about 30-35 youth on Wednesday night. But tonight we may have only 5 left. I am calling them out. I have searched the scriptures for answers and tonight's sermon will be out of Matthew. Here is the scriptures:

Matthew 21:12 Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the merchants and their customers. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the stalls of those selling doves. 13He said, "The Scriptures declare, `My Temple will be called a place of prayer,' but you have turned it into a den of thieves!"

Tonight we will discuss the meaning and purpose of meeting on Wednesday nights. I am at my wits end and hope that this will bring them to their senses. If not I am willing to breaking down this youth to the cornerstone and rebuild it.

Pray that all goes well.

Fuge ?

Well today I interviewed with Lifeway. They are the ones that put on Fuge camps. They do Xfuge, Centrifuge, M-fuge, Crosspoint, CentriKid, M-fuge International and a new one Centri-Cruise. The interview was about 45 mins long. It went well I think. Who knows what will turn out from it. I am afraid that even if they want me to be a staffer that I won't be able to. It takes 13 days to train for it. Then I am not sure how long they will want me to be at the camp. After all I am a pastor and that is before this. I have to admit this would really look good on a resume.

I have class tonight. I am taking Organizational Communications. It seems fairly easy. I think the last class was better. Only time will tell.

For lunch today we went to the GlenDale Place for pastor appreciation day. We meet with Mrs Lillian Butcher. The meal was great and we had a good talk. I met up with my mother pastor as well. Tim is a funny guy. I just hope the church realizes how blessed they are to have him as pastor.

Well another day...Another penny...Have a good one!

My son the photographer.

For Micah's birthday we gave him a children's digital camera. This is something he actually asked for. It is kind of different than most cameras. But that is good because there is no way I would give a 6year old a 100 digital camera to brake.

Micah has been so excited about this thing. He goes around snapping pictures one after another. We have to delete most of them because he won't stay still long enough to keep the picture from blurring.

So today for your viewing pleasure I present Micah's portfolio.

I will try to post a few every week or so. Some of the pictures are a bit blurry or grainy. We are learning how to use this thing. But I am sure our photographer will figure it all out.

Fall is definitely here.

Well I got up this morning and actually had to put on long sleeves and a coat. The leaves are turning a bright yellow and orange now. Although it is one of those drab and sleepy days all is well in the Hughes house.

Church this morning went fine. We had a great time and Bro Dennis and Carm are back. They really enjoyed spending time with their family. His morning message was good as well as tonight's. I had one of those migraines from the pits of Hades this morning. I actually dreamed I had a headache and woke up with one. Wierd....

Well the little ones are fast asleep. Buffy wasn't feeling well tonight. So she went to bed early too. So that leaves me here typing to a inanimate object. I really need to hit the sack. So I hope you all have experience a great day and I wish you the best with tomorrow.

Until we meet again or Jesus comes back. In that case I pray that we meet again.

My home PC. I hear taps playing.

I have to admit before explaining the problems that this computer has been great. We bought this Dell over 4 years ago. I have upgraded memory and hard drives since then. I even gutted an older dell laptop for parts. So she has been great.

The worry is that she will give up the ghost before I can afford to get a new one. I kind of need one for school and work. The greatest thing about the ole girl is that she has been paid for. I may need to lay hands on it and pray that it holds off it's timely death.

Here is a poem I wrote about our pc:

It seem like only yesterday you arrived.
So clean and so new.

The anticipation of your hum.
With so many new things to do.

The nights we have spent together
Papers, research and fun

Were good times
You always helped me get things done.

Now the days have come with,
black screens and blue.

Internet connections
not as good as the use to.

Hold on! Girl hold on!
4 years and counting.

We got more years together
even thought the tension is mounting.

So if the day of your demise grows close.
I want you to know this

You have been money well spent
with a farewell kiss.

Well that is for the ole Inspirion 2500. BTW I really am not a poet. So I won't make a habit of this. LOL ..Have a great day.

2nd Floor of the Spring Resort.

It is Thursday again and I am setting in my office. This is on the 2nd floor. As I type, I wonder what will the day hold. Who will call? What things need to be done. My desk is beginning to look like a hurricanado hit it.

Upward Basketball is about to hit in full force. I have 5,000 brochures to get out and try to increase our numbers from last year. There are 2 other churches this year doing this program as well. So this kind of limits the county to where most of ours will come from. I am not so worried because I think all will go well.

Micah and Abbi are having a combined B-day party this weekend. It is hard to believe that they are going to be 6 and 4. Man they grow up fast!

We have parent teacher conferences tonight. We know Micah is doing well. His papers show that. But it is always good to find out where he needs help in. He has been on a good behavior pattern for the last few weeks. So maybe this will continue throughout the school year.

Well I need to clean up this mess I call my desk and get some work done. Until tomorrow...break someone's clavicle.

Thee ...Thou....Thine

Why do you think people pray with these words? I mean is it because it sounds pretty? Is it because they think that is how they are suppose to pray? This is the old 1611 King James English. The way I see it is that God wants us to talk with him like a best friend. He wants us to approach him in a personal way. So if you talk to your wife and say "Dearest, couldest thou bringth me the remoteth?" then feel free to continue. But if you are like me....Just be real.

Today I drove the bus and preached the evening service. It was actually not to bad. I also announced that we were expecting. I am excited. I just pray that my little wife can get to feeling better. Until tomorrow comes. I wish you all a good eve.

Louis Farrakhan the fruity pebble.

All I can say is WOW! I heard this demented man speaking the other day. He claims that the president of the United states is a racist and also that the government had some to do with the devastation in New Orleans.

"In comments regarding the flooding of New Orleans in consequence of Hurricane Katrina, Louis Farrakhan revealed to the press a report that he received, from a "very reliable source" he said, that there was a 25-foot hole under one of the levees that broke, which suggested it may have been busted on purpose to destroy the part of the city where Black people lived. The Final Call Farrakhan in a broadcast leading up to the Million Man March 10th Anniversary revealed that New Orleans' Mayor Nagin during a meeting in Dallas, Texas shared with him the information regarding the 25-foot crater underneath the levee.

Citing the fact that the levee broke the day after Hurricane Katrina passed, others including Baltimore Sun and BlackAmericaWeb columnist Gregory Kane and political commentator, Cedric Muhammad have raised additional questions and called for federal investigations into the source of the levee break."

This source is found here.

This man has other claims.

"On October 24, 1989, at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC., Louis Farrakhan stated that he had a vision of being abducted in 1985 by an invisible pilot in a UFO and carried up on a beam of light to a "human built planet" known as the "Mother Wheel." There the voice of Elijah Muhammad informed him that the president and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, under the direction of Gen. Colin Powell, were planning a war, which Farrakhan said he later came to realize was "a war against the black people of America, the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan." "I saw a city in the sky," Farrakhan said, after which the UFO "brought me back to Earth and dropped me off near Washington; over to Tyson Corners and Fifth Street I think...to make The Announcement."

This man is endorsed and Supported by many political leaders. He honestly makes me sick. He insights anger into the American people. He along with many others have lead many down the wrong path. He qoutes from our holy scripture but and then also claims to be Muslim. I almost can feel the darkness in such a man. It scares me...I worry about those in whom are so politically blinded that they will lead astray by this man and many others.

I don't normally write about politics but this man is a fruit cake. And yet there are people following him and almost worshipping him.

I made a small comic strip to show how we allow the tv,media and papers tell us what to believe. It is only afterward that we become talking newspapers...simply sputtering back what some show or article said. We have lost our ability to be critical thinkers. Wake up!

Well here it is.........

The big secret is out. I am glad that I can finally say this. We are going to have another baby!!!!!! Yeeeeeehaaaawwww! That's right I am excited. Oh and YES this is planned. I have stored an arsenal of words if there is one person that has a negative comment on this GREAT blessing. Buffy and I have known for a good while now. We have been afraid of what others would say. But I don't care....I am full of joy. My God is good.

While Buffy was on the phone with her family I went over and told my parents. Their response surprised me. I thought the worst and they reacted with the best. Thank you mom and dad for being supportive of us. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have people that actually support us in this adventure we call life. My mother is one of 8. I see the genuine care for each other. I see the love and I have always wanted a good sized family. My number was always 4. My mother was number 5 and if it was not for her I wouldn't exist. At 30 years of age I am still as ready if not more than I was when Micah was born.

The kids loved the idea of a new baby. Love grows in the Hughes house! Buffy I love you and thank you so much for marrying me. This life is great!

One thing...just a prayer request. Buffy has a 3 cm cyst on her ovary. The Dr said that this happens all the time and that they almost always go away. Pray that it does. I know I will.

Well I am ramblin in my excitement. Cya all later.

Worship was great.

Well Sunday worship was great. I am not saying that because I preached. I am saying that because the whole worship services was good. The AM service was more lively than it usually is. Then our Sunday Bible study was enjoyable. Sunday night Mark Mohler a good friend preached on the 2nd coming.

I rented some movies and we plan to spend the evening relaxing. See you later.

Saturday, October 15, 2005

The Pumpkin patch.

The kids are headed to the pumpkin patch. Although I have a wedding to run the sound for my mother and father are taking them. From what I have gathered about this pumpkin patch there is a lot for the kids to do. They have a maze, pumpkin patch and petting zoo. I know the kids will enjoy it and my parents are suppose to take pictures. So if there are some then I will post them.

I preach tomorrow. I am doing a continuation of my sermon series "The Unquenchable Worshipper". I took some ideas out of a book by Matt Redman. If you like to read I suggest you pick it up.

It is almost time for me to have lunch. I hope you all have a great Saturday.

Friday, October 14, 2005

The Wedding.

Tonight I have to help with a rehearsal. I will be running the sound and video for the wedding. It is for the Rose family. They are down in the church right now getting things ready for tomorrow. Tiffany is marring Clay. I pray that they have a great and blessed marriage.

There has been a small kink to work out. They have scheduled a power outage around the time of the wedding. We have back up plans in order just in case. It is funny how life works sometimes. But when we all put our heads together we can accomplish anything.

Well I need to finish some work. I hope you all have a great weekend. Oh and GO #17!!!

Pictures with explanation.

Thursday and I am clean off my desk at work. I figured I would also clean off my memory card on the camera. I was thinking to myself. How will I put all this in one spot and make any meaning of it. Then I thought. Nevermind...it doesn't have to make sense. I am Jamie. (LOL)

Well first in my collection I would like to display my art work. Lets call this "Moving lights".
Don't try this at home kids. I was driving down the road and just snapping pictures.

Speedway Scooter Bridge Murky Shop Dorm of lights Tree Light

The next is a picture of a guy that appeared out of no where the other day. I was getting my car washed at one of those automatic places and he just jumped out. He sprayed something on spots of my car. It reminded me of Happy Gilmores caddy. The one he picked up off the parking lot. The guy was washing his windows. I will call him Fred.

Finally from the football game we went to last Friday.I said I would post some. I couldn't get one of Timmy. But the other guys I finally did.

1/15 of the way done.

Well last night I finished my first class. The professor said that I had an "A' or "B" depending on the paper I wrote. I wrote my first 10 page paper. My wife was gracious enough to proof it. If you know me there are 2 things I have the most difficulty doing.

1) Writing

2) Reading

I have always had problems with reading. I can remember even when I was in grade school hoping that the teacher wouldn't call on me. Not because I didn't know the words. It was simply because I didn't read aloud well. I would stumble and stutter through the simplest sentences. I would hear the snickers. I felt ashamed and stupid. Then when people didn't understand why I had that problem it only made it worse. That is still a problem today. I can retain the information but spitting it out is a different story.

Writing is just because I didn't pay attention in school. I know the basics but as me to diagram a sentence in detail. You might as well as me to invent a plane that will fly to the moon and back. Yeah...um....that ain't gonna happen.

So I have told you something that even the most important people don't even know about me. Why would I do this? Why would I leave my self open like that? The answer is that I can boast only in my weaknesses. I could spit out all this "I am sooo great at this" or "I am soooo smart at this". What would that tell you? It would show my arrogance. But if I boast in my weakness I can only claim that Christ did it. See I get up in front of people a lot and read scripture. I write letters and sermons. How....? I don't know. I simply would tell you that I find my strength in Christ. He is the one that makes my weaknesses strengths. But only through him.

2 Corinthians:29-31

29Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? 30If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am. 31God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows I tell the truth.

Moving stuff into the apartment.

We moved a lot of items into the apartment in Murray today. It is a really small spot but I am sure that those at Camp WOW are ready for some more home like settings. It was truly amazing to see a lot of our church members get together to provide things for this apartment.

The houses around ours are furnished by Glendale Church of Christ, First Christian, First Methodist and then us at Poplar Spring Baptist Church. This is what I like to see. Us setting aside small differences to make a big difference in someone's life.

Well got to get ready for school and thanks honey for editing my 10 page paper. I am sure it will make sense to others besides me. I love you !!

There is something very interesting in my hand.

Today while picking up around the house my middle girl (Abbi) crouched down to tell me something. I could see the seriousness of her look. She said "Dad???" . I then asked her what she needed. Abbi then replied "I have something very interesting in my hand".

Well I don't know where she found a penny but that was what it was. She was very proud of her find. I told her she could have it. Abbi carried it around until lunch.

Her little words got me thinking. Micah is 5 almost 6 now. She is developing in her speach. Hannah is not far around the corner. Children grow up so fast. I know I will look back on days like this and wonder where did my little girl go. Always understanding no matter what she will be my little girl.

Time moves so quickly. Before I know it I will be sitting in a house with no sounds of little feet running around the house. I say that we need to hold tightly to every day. I know now why my mothers parents decided to have 8. Each little foot meant so much. I just pray that I don't forget and lose track of what really is important.

Just a stone's throw away.

Our pastor hit the nail on the head today. He was preaching on how we as Christians sit back and judge others before we attempt to help them. It seems that our judgment of others is just a stones throw away.

John 8:6-8
6They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. 7They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!" 8Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.

What was Jesus writing ...the answer is we don't know. But it could have been a lot of things. It could have been the people in the crowds sins, it could have been those who had been with this lady, it could have been a bible verse but we really don't know. The real statement was made. This is the question I ask you. What did the stones represent? (judgment).

Matthew 7:1-3
1"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. 2For others will treat you as you treat them. Whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged. 3And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?

We are not called to judge. We are called to love them unconditionally. So we need to remove those logs first. Then we will see that the speck in others eyes is nothing that Jesus can't handle. Our job is to be there and help in anyway. Let's leave judgment where it should be left. In the hands of God.

Matthew 7:21-23
21"Not all people who sound religious are really godly. They may refer to me as `Lord,' but they still won't enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The decisive issue is whether they obey my Father in heaven. 22On judgment day many will tell me, `Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' 23But I will reply, `I never knew you. Go away; the things you did were unauthorized.

Religion needs to die. Let faith live and thrive instead.

The MSU football game.

Well I took a couple of youth to the MSU vs Jacksonville football game. It was actually a pretty good game. The temperature was a little cool but perfect football weather. During the half I wanted to get something hot to drink. I really didn't care if it was coffee or hot cocoa. I venture out and notice these are the things for sell.

Pizza
Hot Dogs
Burgers
Soft Drinks (Cold)
Dippin Dots (Very Cold)
There was more but I was looking for a beverage.

I remembered that there is a starbucks coffee shop at one of the dorms. We walked over to it got our drinks and made it back before the half began. That hot drink really hit the spot. But I have to say MSU think a little next time. If it is cold ...get a coffee pot and heat some water. Hot Cocoa and Coffee for $2.00 would still sell over drinks with ICE in them.

I will post Tuesday some pictures of the night out with a few youth.

Sozo's Blog Spam Revolt

Well if you have ever blogged any you know there is a spam posts. This really gets under my skin. I mean if I could figure out what to do and I was a computer hacker I would send these guys some stuff infected with the greatest Virus known to the internet world. Unfortunately I am just a person that knows how to turn on their pc, connect and surf.

I think we need to lead a spam revolt. Let us all join together for this fight. I think that if we all go to the sites and just flat out keep emailing them letters with pages and pages of post such as this one:

THURSDAY - Someone stole the fuses.

This afternoon I swung by our apartment the church is cleaning up for the Hurricane victims. There were to ladies from our church there cleaning. They had really done a great job and the 10 year old urine smell was gone. You should have seen the mountain of cleaning chemicals they had there.

Well back to the story. Once I came in I asked how things were going. They said good except there was no electricity. After further observation they noticed there was no fuses. I don't know if whoever left the apartment took them or if the person that sold it to Murray State did. Needless to say all the house fuses were missing from the apartment.

After visiting 4 buildings I got someone to come from MSU to fix the problem. I really appreciate the amount of time Donna Sanders and Lisa Hayes put in. I only wish we had more people eager to do the small things in church.

Well Friday is approaching and I am tired so nite all.....God Bless!

WEDNESDAY - Road Rage...

This evening I was headed to church. I top what I will now call Coldwater Challenge (Aka Coldwater Bottom). I see 3 cars in front of me that are going slow. So this is a great place to pass one of them. As I hit the gas a get along side the other car this driver decides to speed up. This causes a dilemma for me. I mean it is either slow down and hope to get back behind him or speed up and try to get in front of him. I think to myself. Is this guy trying to get me killed? So I nail the gas and barely get in front of him. He then hangs his hands out the window at me.

What?? You have got to be kidding me. I mean I was legally passing him and then he hits the gas to keep me from doing that. Then he gets mad a me for passing him. I then decide to go down a different road to get away from this punk. I cooled down...but in my road rage I wanted strangle him.

I did learn that I need to just cool down and take it easy. Let the punks on the road have it. Good times ...Good times...

TUESDAY - Class chaplain

I have wrote before that I am taking classes at night. Well each class has to have a rep. And a chaplain. I waited until the last minute to volunteer for this. The class rep. Went the first night. So anyway needless to say the pastor in the class (me) will be the class chaplain.

It is not that I really care about doing it. I just don't want people to think that since I am a pastor that I am the Sealed with Approval Official religious and Faith Buildling person. I am no different. I am willing to serve where ever the Lord wants me. I just want to do it with a humble attitude.

Galatians 6:3
"If you think you are too important to help someone in need, you are only fooling yourself. You are really a nobody."

2 Cor. 12:5-6
"5 That experience is something worth boasting about, but I am not going to do it. I am going to boast only about my weaknesses. 6I have plenty to boast about and would be no fool in doing it, because I would be telling the truth. But I won't do it. I don't want anyone to think more highly of me than what they can actually see in my life and my message, "

I am nothing but in Christ I have everything. My weakness will show his strength. So just as Paul wrote. I will only boast about my weaknesses. Can you say the same thing?

MONDAY - I pledge allegiance to a country without politicians

I was watch TV tonight and realized one thing. Politics stink! I am flipping through the channels. I wind up on KET and realize they have put 4 slightly ignorant guys on a panel to discuss politics. I decide to watch about 15 minutes of it. Afterward I was so mad I could have just spit nails. Here they are debating junk that they don't even know about. Why I ask myself would anyone agree to this? Well the answer seems plain to me.

They wanted to out put their political views on certain subjects.

Switchfoot just recently wrote a song called Politicians. In this song they right"I pledge allegiance to a country without borders without politicians." This song goes on to say that politics is dividing our country more and more. I know we all have our right to speech and right to views. But come one people we are AMERICANS!!! I am tired of political agendas, I am tired of lies, I am tired of people waiting for the president to mess up ant then say "see I told you so" and finally I am tired of peoples arrogant comments about which party is doing the wrong thing. To quote Earl Pitts "Wake up America".

When the world has come to the point that it points fingers at someone else and never looks at itself in the mirror then we are in a sad shape. WE ALL GOOF UP! Nobody is infallible. I support our country, our troops and our current president. If you can do that get on the next plane out and find a place that better suits you. You have that freedom too.

SUNDAY - Untainted Holiness

Man when you think of true holiness what do you see? I can't even picture myself next to something like that. Maybe that is why Isaiah said "I am a dead man, for I am a man of unclean lips" (my version). Maybe that is why John bowed down in the presence of God's heavenly beings. That is exactly why Moses had to remove his sandal's.

Eph 1:1 says:

1This letter is from Paul, chosen by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus. It is written to God's holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.

We are God's holy people? Wow what great responsibility. You noticed the bold part. What about the part that is italics? We are called to be faithful. Are you faithful?

Then in Eph 1:18 we see this:

18I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people.

With our faith in Christ we receive a rich blessing. An inheritance so large nothing on this earth can touch it. I just recently told my mother (Sorry John...lol) that I don't care about inheritance. I explained that I would rather see them enjoy what they worked so hardly for. I am blessed already and God will always take care of my family. Plus my eternal inheritance is the most important. The only thing I could ever want is to spend eternity with my wife, kids, family and friends. That kind of of inheritance is worth sharing.

So I ask you today. Are you living an untainted holy life? If not, Christ has called you into living one. Stop hanging out in the temporal life and start planning for the eternal one.

SATURDAY - The durn thing wont die.

Well I gotta mow the yard again. I am procrastinating. We have been having cooler weather. So I am hoping the yard will die out soon. It's not like I have a 15 acre yard. But to keep up with my neighbor I have to mow every week. He keeps his yard looking like a golf course. I then have to counter mow. This is muck like a hair dresser. If you want to fade one lenght into another you have to slowly layer the cut. This is the same. He mows on 1. I mow on 4. So the difference is very noticable if you don't do it right. Don't get me wrong I have one of the greatest neighbors. But would it hurt to mow your yard on 3. LOL

Well another day and another ....wait I don't get paid. It's just another day. LOL
